MIPIM 2019 Review

2019 saw the Midlands UK at MIPIM Partnership showcase a wealth of investment opportunities to an international audience, with a series of successful events at this year’s global property show, MIPIM World in Cannes from the 12th – 15th March.

Inspired and underpinned by our key themes of collaboration, connectivity and confidence, the Midlands UK Pavilion welcomed potential investors, property agents, developers and the media from across the world, hosting 43 events, including panel discussions and showcase presentations from a range of nationally and internationally recognised speakers.

2019 is the third year the West Midlands Growth Company has organised and project managed the Midlands UK presence at MIPIM, working in partnership across the East and West Midlands to showcase over £11billion of investment opportunities. Also unveiled for the first time was ‘The Midlands Engine is here’, a film focusing on the people, potential and opportunities that are brimming throughout the region.

Initial attendance and footfall figures have confirmed that the Midlands UK event programme alone attracted more than 3,500 visits, an increase of 18% from last year.

With 364 delegates from 100 commercial and public sector organisations supporting the Midlands UK at MIPIM Partnership, the Midlands UK Pavilion was once again the talk of Cannes, creating an unrivalled atmosphere for all partners and visitors to enjoy.

Some key highlights from the week were as follows:

  • £11billion of investment opportunity launched via the West Midlands Investment Prospectus and the Midlands Engine prospectus to a global audience.
  • A total of 43 events took place across the three day Midlands UK Event Programme, with greater diversity of speakers and no male only panels.
  • 364 delegates from 100 partners supported the Midlands UK at MIPIM, our largest ever delegation.
  • 97 unique speakers and panellists provided informative and insightful debate across key industry sectors including; Office & Mixed Use, Manufacturing & Logistics, Life Sciences, Tech & Creative and Residential.
  • 201 people on the Midlands UK Charter Flight direct from Birmingham Airport.
  • 3,518 Total Pavilion Footfall an increase of 18% from 2018
  • @UKMidlands attracted 182,000 Twitter Impressions, an increase in engagement of 23% from 2018.
  • midlandsukmipim.com attracted 20,454 page views from 65 countries, with unique website visits up 60% from 2018
  • Comms, Media and PR coverage generated 102 articles, with a total reach of 2,557,347 and total value of £294,387.26.
  • 253 investor related calls made prior to the event, resulting in a 10% return of “hot” investor leads.

The Midlands cultural and creative economy also featured heavily in this year’s three-day event programme, with the most popular event of the week hosting Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The writer and director spoke about the region’s creative quarter and his exciting plans for a new film studio in the Midlands.

He was joined by local urban poet, Casey Bailey, who delivered an incredible end to the week with his poem called ‘The Midlander’ which focused on the people, place and heritage of the region. You can watch it here.
